One of my favorite songs that Whitney Houston ever performed was titled “The Greatest Love of All.” The love she was singing about was self love, loving ourselves. In a voice that many of us cherish to this day, she sang that she found the greatest love of all inside of herself. Learning and practicing this is the backdrop to all of your self-care/wellness practices and decisions.

I have included the lyrics to this inspiring song for you below. To me, it reads like an affirmation of how I want to cultivate a relationship with myself. Also, at the end of this, I have a self-love assessment for you to help align yourself with this way of being. Not just for Valentine's Day, but throughout the year and beyond.

Here's an inspiring quote I read today. ❤

Other than the love of God, the greatest love is self love. You have to love yourself more than you love someone else in order to succeed in a prosperous life~ Barbara Hart

Although it is currently the month of February, which includes Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to practice loving yourself daily as a practice and a habit. It is far too precious to save up for just one day.

Do you think about things like healing your body, living your best life, making a difference, and experiencing freedom?
Are you like one of my clients who told me that is very happy, but very unhappy about how he has ruined his health?
Do you know that at the very core of who you are, there is great room for improvement when it comes to loving you first, and providing your body and soul with ongoing nourishment?

From my perspective as a Health Coach, how we feed ourselves, how we take care of ourselves, and what we tell ourselves are three ways to assess how much we love ourselves first.

One of the most self-loving and self-honoring things you can do is to share wholesome meals with people who you care about and who care about you.

One of the most self-loving and self-honoring things you can do is to share wholesome meals with people who you care about and who care about you. The first ingredient in home-cooked meals is always love.

To find the greatest love of all, focus on your daily practices, especially the ones described below.
Create baseline good habits, and build from there.

Living your best life depends on you loving yourself first on the road to healing your body and experiencing freedom.

Love yourself first

Daily Practice #1: Food and Nourishment

  • Having a healthy and wholesome attitude toward food. (“Going sane” around food, releasing insanity around food, and finding higher ground.)
  • Providing your body with sustainable nourishment. (Quit poisoning and stressing your body with toxic food.)
  • Untangling the hot mess between stress, food, and emotions. (Breaking free, getting good at self-care, and not abusing food to quell stress and emotional challenges.)
You deserve to be loved exactly as you are.

Daily Practice #2: Self-Care

  • Being well-rested is the result of making sleep a priority. Having a regular bedtime helps to ensure that you are not overwhelmed by exhaustion.
  • Regular movement and exercise are required for a healthy heart, a positive mood, and a real shot at avoiding disease. Our bodies were designed to benefit from activities that help us have stamina, and to be strong and flexible.
  • The greatest love of all is reflected by the company you keep. Being around positive people who can encourage you and be positive role models ensures that you stay in touch with your worthiness.

Daily Practice #3: The Power of Self-Talk

  • Starting your day with words of encouragement, gratitude, and self-love is like setting your compass to true north. This habit has a compound effect the more you practice it.
  • Not making stuff up in your head about things you imagine to be bad is a wonderful habit to break. Said positively, listen to what you tell yourself. Use your imagination to help things turn out for the best.
  • Be kind to yourself. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to someone whom you cherish. Only finish thoughts in your mind that inspire you to be your best self.
Listen to ho

Listen to how you speak to yourself. It's called "self-talk" and is key to taking good care of you.

Loving yourself first is fundamental to your journey of getting and staying healthy, and to experiencing energy and vitality. So fundamental, in fact, that it is in first position in the Health Matters Five Pillars system. It is titled, aptly, Love Yourself First. Here is a little self-love self-assessment for you.

The First Pillar of the Health Matters System is
Love Yourself First.

And remember, at Health Matters Coaching, all roads lead to your being happier, healthier, and to experiencing more love in your life, including the greatest love of all. May every day be a bit like Valentine’s Day as you experience an abundance of love in your life.

The Greatest Love of All - Lyrics

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

Everybody's searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me

I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

Because the greatest
Love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest
Love of all inside of me

The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride
To make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

Because the greatest
Love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest
Love of all inside of me

And if, by chance, that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love
