Health coaching, also referred to as wellness coaching, is a process that facilitates healthy, sustainable behavior change by challenging a client to listen to their inner wisdom, identify their values, and transform their goals into action. Health coaching draws on the principles of positive psychology and the practices of motivational interviewing and goal setting. The terms health coaching? and wellness coaching? are used interchangeably.
Currently, given the trends between people’s awareness of what their doctors can and cannot do for them, and what it means to take complete responsibility for one’s body and health, health coaching is an emerging field. Essentially, this is a way for people to look at their lives, their habits, and their choices in order to create positive, sustainable change for which the client can take complete responsibility. The process of health coaching puts someone in charge.
